Vale Don Sharp
The work of organizations such as MSN is made possible through the dedication of volunteers. Some years ago Don Sharp joined our events team to help out at our Networking and Learning meetings. But Don did more than help out. With his huge smile and ready conversation, he created a welcoming environment for all who attended. We last saw Don at the launch of our new name in November last year – just before he headed to Adelaide where he passed away peacefully with his family on 19 December 2016.
Don loved everything he did, especially in regard to mentoring, and only wanted success for the good of others. He was a generous and giving person who would do anything for anyone. Richard (Don’s son) always said that what he learned from his dad was how to serve others. Don was a great supporter of mentoring. Outside MSN, Don participated in the Redhead Men’s Shed mentoring program, running programs for young people he knew had the potential to do better. Don would find out what future employment the mentees were interested in and then visit businesses in the student’s local area to find work experience for them. Don's determination and enthusiasm for mentoring led to the formation of the Men’s Shed Youth Mentors Inc., which continues to operate.
