Students to benefit from Lord Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast – Jon Chin JP
I am really delighted to report that Mentor Support Network was selected by the Mayor as the beneficiary of the 2019 Newcastle Annual Lord Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast held at Wests New Lambton on 7 June. The choice was made in recognition of “the great work they do in the community.”
This surprise success can be attributed to MSN’s hardworking Secretary Katherine Heinrich who took the initiative, of her own volition, to put in the submission for us.
As the beneficiary winner, funds raised at the breakfast are to be awarded to Mentor Support Network to help fund our Educational Scholarships Program for next year. Those attending the breakfast were invited to make a contribution to the scholarships program.
Thanks to the generosity of those in attendance a total of $16,000 was raised which will provide scholarships for at least seven students during 2020.
Our success also provided us with a huge, and unexpected amount of exposure, with the 400-plus attendees being given a good overview of the support we provide to disadvantaged and marginalised students in our local area.
I was personally approached by a number of people after the event, all wanting to know more about our organisation and also wanting to be connected with us.
On behalf of Mentor Support Network, I would like to thank the Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes, as well as Pastor Rick Prosser and his breakfast organising Committee, and the many people who donated to the scholarships program.
