A large donation by Port Waratah Coal Services will allow the Mentor Support Network to continue delivering valuable mentor training courses for people wishing to support the region’s young people.
MSN’s Chair, Shayne Connell, said the $9000 donation from Port Waratah Coal Services through its Community Investment Fund would enable the network to launch three training courses in 2021.
The COVID-19 pandemic has restricted our training program in 2020 but we have focussed our attention on the next 12 months and the donation provides a solid financial foundation for 2021, said Shayne.
The aim of the Adult Mentor Training Program is to address the gap between young people who wish to have the support of a qualified mentor but are unable to do so.
MSN exists to help young people achieve their educational and career goals and the mentor training program had been developed to provide mentors with the important skills and tools needed for working with young people.
MSN hopes to train up to 30 mentors through three courses in 2021. The courses would be promoted early in the new year.
Shayne said many not-for-profit organisations such as MSN have been impacted by the COVID-19 but that the support of business partners such as Port Waratah Coal Services was allowing it to plan for the future.
The PWCS donation is a valuable contribution to our operations which will benefit volunteers in our mentor training program, added Shayne.
