MSN Presentations – April and June
Our first Networking and Learning presentation in April provided an opportunity to introduce MSN Patron Bernie Curran AM to the membership and broader community.Bernie spoke on the impact mentoring had had in his life and of those who provided that mentoring – at times in the most unusual and unexpected circumstances. In his roles both as a teacher and at Evatt House at the University of Newcastle, providing mentoring support for the young people in his care was always of paramount importance.
In June we heard from Matt Linnert mentor and founder of Collective Heart. MSN Patron Bernie Curran when introducing Matt described him as authentic, genuine and most importantly “from the heart” – offering common sense to all of us
Since beginning his career as a maths teacher Matt has been a mentor. He has mentored professionally for 16 years.Matt mentors because he sees potential in each of us.He mentors to help build a philosophy for living in others.Matt asks us first to be kind to ourselves, find a sense of purpose and the peace that comes with that.“Value life more than success and build relationships with others.”Look to love, curiosity, faith and service.
Some years ago Matt founded Newcastle charity Collective Heart whose mission is be a community of people who empower each other to love others through acts of service, kindness and generosity.
We were moved and inspired. To hear more from Matt go to his website and sign up to his Monthly Musings.
The next presentation will take place in late August.
