2020 Message From Our Chair

The past year has been difficult for all of us individuals and also for all who belong to organisations such as Mentor Support Network (MSN) because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is only through the great support, professionalism and dedication of our mentors, scholarship holders, supporters, schools and teachers, committee members and corporate partners that the network (and similar organisations) have been able to overcome many hurdles placed before them this year.

I stepped into the role of Chair in October and have been impressed by the work of the network’s various committees and the mentors who have provided so much valuable assistance to our scholarship holders in various schools in the Hunter Region.

MSN has a solid foundation that has been built over many years and it is a great credit to previous committee members and especially our previous Chair, Jon Chin, that it is a well-connected community organisation.

It is a result of this work over an extended period that the MSN Executive Committee has voted to bestow Life Membership on Jon for his long service and development of the network. It’s an honour well deserved.

In conclusion, thank you to our corporate partners in supporting us through a difficult 2020 where many of our social functions were not able to be held as a result of COVID-19 restrictions. Let’s look forward to a far brighter and happier year in 2021.

Merry Christmas to everyone and I hope the festive season signals new opportunities for next year.

Shayne Connell

Chair, Mentor Support Network
