Network and Learning Meeting #5
MICHELE OSHAN OF THE FAMILY ACTION CENTRE TO SPEAK ON LEARNING UNLEASHED.
Learning Unleashed is a professional development workshop of the Uni4You Project. It provides a toolbox for practitioners and is useful for all who support the educational aspirations of people.
The aims of Learning Unleashed are to:
• Connect people, families, and communities’ hopes and dreams in relation to learning and education.
• Acknowledge and support parents, grandparents, and carers in the role they play in relation to the experience of their children’s education.
• Stimulate curiosity, motivation and action to pursue unmet learning goals.
• Introduce participants to how the concepts of intelligence, brain development and a growth mindset can impact on a person’s belief in their ability to succeed in learning.
The Uni4You Project offers preparatory and support activities over an 18 month cycle for people aged 18 years and over, who reside in areas that historically have lower than average engagement rates in tertiary education. Those who access the activities Uni4You have diverse life-stories including: low income, educational disadvantage, disrupted family life, and health issues.
Michele Oshan originally worked in the disability sector and psychiatric research. Her 25 years’ experience in community development, health and education have focused on collaborative projects that support the aspirations and wellbeing of children, families and their communities.
